Harris Corporation has been awarded a 10-year, contract to provide a complete, end-to-end solution for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite Series R Ground Segment (GOES-R GS) program. The Harris team will design, develop, deploy and operate the GOES-R ground segment, which will receive and process satellite data, and generate and distribute weather data to more than 10,000 direct users. Harris will also provide the command and control of operational satellites. The Harris team is providing a service-based, open-architecture solution that will accommodate the anticipated 40-times increase in data to be ingested, processed and distributed. The first launch of a GOES-R series satellite is scheduled for 2015.
Job Description:
- Lead and participate in the development of science algorithm operational software requirements.
- Lead and participate in the software design to implement science algorithm code in the operational system.
- Lead and participate in the evaluation of science algorithm software designs to understand operational implementation.
- Participate in requirements, design, development and test reviews to ensure high product quality.
- Participate in resolving complex problems that require a high level of ingenuity and innovation, applying knowledge of software design to provide the customer best value.
- Review work in progress to ensure that specifications, design, and performance schedules are maintained and resolve or oversee resolution of programmatic and/or technical problems.
- Support interactions with science subcontractors and customers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Math with a minimum of 9 years of software design/development experience.
- Knowledge and experience with the full software development lifecycle.
- Experience with software process, procedures, and metrics.
- Math background and/or experience implementing math intensive applications.
- Ability to estimate time and effort on development projects and tasks.
- Good technical writing, presentation, teamwork and customer interfacing skills and good organizational skills, good problem solving skills, and a willingness to work with teams and individuals.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Knowledge of application processing in a high performance computing environment.
- Knowledge and experience in the meteorological domain.
- Knowledge and experience in the design/development of environmental/weather algorithms.
